Original Nations Guitar

This year I have started working on a new internship - Original Nations. This company helps young entrepreneurs start thier own brands with no upfront costs. When I first started working with them, I was only interested in helping them flush out the website and find bugs. However, they have just recently come to me with an awesome opportunity and I couldn't be more excited.  As a musician, I have always wanted a signature instrument. Taylor Guitars reached out to them to have me as a brand ambassador for thier acoustic GS mini line. I was honored for this, but I knew I wanted to take it a step further. Just this week we decided that we are going to take these acoustic guitars and custom laser cut the brand name into the side and add a cool design. From here, we will sell the guitars and a portion of the profits will go to charity.  While I'm not 100% sure which charity I am going to choose, I'm thinking of Heart Support. Is a mental health-focused charity that was started b...

First ACT Coming up

My first ACT is coming up this weekend and I am anxious to see how I do. Since Post Oak has never really emphasized testing, I have been grinding to finish as much test prep as possible. While I plan to take more tests, I would like to perform well on this to see what my baseline is.  I struggle a lot with the math section on the ACT. My English and reading sections are coming along nicely but the math is really holding me back. I have been working with an outside tutor to move me along and get me back on track. I would love to hit the 30 mark on the ACT, but that remains to be seen.  I have taken a test ACT before, but the feelings on test day are always different. The conditions in the room, the anxiety, and the adrenaline are all factors that play into how well you test. I just hope I do well!

Volleyball Season Starting

Because we couldn't play flag football this year from covid restrictions, we have successfully started a boys volleyball team. We have been trying to start this for years, but this year it finally worked in our favor. Because the boys were so dominant in our Quadfest games, we had very high expectations coming into our season, but our practices so far have highlighted our weaknesses.  Our first game is this week as well, so were are interested to see how our practice will pay off. From what I've heard, the competition is tough with other boys' volleyball teams. Our team also lacks some height, but I have high hopes for our season.  In practice, we have been working on returning serves and setting. We will have the best opportunities to score off of some spikes by Fabby and I, so I've been working on that form. I'm super excited to start playing!

MMUN Online Teaching

A new year has started at school I am once again working with MMUN to help teach younger kids. Montessori Model United Nations is a very unique experience and I love participating each year.  I started in MMUN back in 4th grade and have worked my way up to be part of the "bureau", which is essentially the group of people that help run the conference. This year I am going to be Vice-Chair, which is someone who helps run the conferences.  I love working with the kids to help finish their position papers, speeches, and general research. This year the conferences will be online, so it will be interesting to see how that changes the dynamics of our negotiations. Because our weekly meetings are going to be on zoom, I think it will be a good dry run to see how people can work together. I am excited for another year of MMUN!

Creating my Music Studio

When I had downtime due to COVID-19 and quarantine, I began to play drums a lot more. Soon, I was invested in playing drums for many hours every week and got extremely motivated to build a music studio.  We had a small room in the back of our house that was used as a storage space, but it was really just wasted room. I started by moving my drumkit to the back and setting that up. I had just finished recording some tracks for a kid's album, so I also moved all the cords and mics to fit the new setup. My dad, who plays a lot of keyboards, moved his keyboards into the back and started to bring all the amps. Finally, we moved the big iMac pro into the back to have the Digitial Audio Workspace.  Once everything was functional, I started working on the aesthetics because I wanted to make sure I could record some drum videos to post on the internet. I found these really cool lights on amazon and bought an LED backing strip to put behind where I would sit. Eventually, everything...
